Job Title: Director of Finance

Department: Business Office

Position: Exempt, Full-Time

Saint Patrick Catholic School is currently seeking a Director of Finance to join our Business Office. The position will provide oversight of the business office, other business operations and personnel.

Overview

Founded in 2005, Saint Patrick Catholic School (Norfolk, Virginia) is an independent Catholic school with an enrollment of approximately 400 students in grades pre-kindergarten through eight. Boasting a vibrant and accomplished team of educators, the school encourages students to develop a growth mindset while creating an educational framework focused on reinforcing six "pillars" of education that support the whole formation of each student. Responsibilities

  • Use standard accounting and bookkeeping procedures, keep accurate continuous record of the cash and financial position of the school and manage the financial operation of the school utilizing Financial Edge (BlackBaud).
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for the Head of School & the Board and a monthly report of expenditures for use of each budget center within the school.
  • Establish a plan/schedule for the preparation of the annual operating budget and capital expenditures budget.
  • Prepare reports as needed for the annual audit of the school's financial records & positions.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of insurance.
  • Perform, assign, and audit the work of the accounting staff, maintain records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Responsible for all basic accounting procedures; financial statement preparation, month-end closing; journal entries and general ledger maintenance, fixed assets, and budget analysis; prepare supporting schedules for financial statements preparation.
  • To provide staff support, in conjunction with the Head of the school, to the Finance Committee and the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Supervise Human Resources department including payroll and benefits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be able to solve problems without sacrificing relationships.
  • Ability relate to and work collaboratively with constituents, leadership teams, and stakeholders.
  • Proven experience as a Director of Finance or similar role, experience in a school setting preferred.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors in Accounting (or similar discipline); Masters preferred.
  • Strong financial analysis and reporting skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office applications including MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
